In 2018, City Fruit marked 10 years of celebrating the power of fruit. The power it has to connect us to this city’s land, our city’s food, and to each other. And through your generous support, you have provided access to that fruit - to growing it, harvesting it, and sharing it, with neighbors across Seattle.
Thanks to you, City Fruit shared over 50,000 pounds of fruit this year! We also offered hands-on learning to more than 200 underserved youth; hosted almost a thousand volunteers; registered hundreds of new trees; stewarded 20 public orchards; and supported a network of almost 50 food banks and community organizations across the city.
Behind each of those pounds of fruit and each of those experiences is a deeper story of connection to food, land, people and place. I think of the food bank guest who picked up fresh fruit for the first time in weeks; the student who had never been to an orchard nor tasted a fresh plum who boldly declared it their favorite food; or the man experiencing homelessness who resided near the food bank and who helped Luke lug crates each time he dropped off fruit.
City Fruit’s harvest operations are funded by neighbors like you who see the value in City Fruit’s efforts to prevent food from going to waste. Whether it’s a one-time gift or a recurring donation, we hope you’ll consider giving to City Fruit during this holiday season, as a reflection of your own commitment to protect and share the wealth of our city’s incredible fruit trees.
Thank you for all the ways that you show up to support City Fruit, all year long. And, thank you in advance, for any support you can offer to sustain our work through 2019!
