SUMMARY:Processing excess fruit at City Fruit office
DESCRIPTION:With the harvest season in full swing\, City Fruit has an abundance of fruit! Currently\, many of our partner food banks are at their capacity for accepting certain fruit donations\, so we are looking for alternative ways to store and utilize the fruit! \nThis volunteer session would involve de-pitting and halving fruit so that they can be frozen and stored for future use. Later use includes: 1) Processing the frozen fruit into jams and jellies; and 2) Donation of the frozen fruit to fruit distribution partners in the fall when they have increased storage capacity. \nWe welcome volunteers to drop by to help process fruit from 10 am – 3 pm on 08/29 and 8/30.  Please email Tiare at tiare@cityfruit.org to share which day you would like to help and for how long! DESCRIPTION:Seattle is one of the few major urban cities in the United States that still has an extensive network of orchards. With City Fruit’s Urban Fruit Guardians program\, we bring students to explore this unique resource through environmental science lessons and art projects. \nJoin for a single session or come to the whole series!  Our Urban Fruit Guardian program is FREE\, meeting Saturdays from July-August.  This session on 08/06 will cover Soil Science and has a morning (9-12pm) and afternoon (12:30-3:30pm) session option.  For more information and to register for the program\, please visit our Urban Fruit Guardians webpage.

SUMMARY:Youth Fruit Tree Steward program with Y-WE
DESCRIPTION:Through a grant for 2022\, City Fruit is now developing our Youth Fruit Tree Stewards (YFTS) program!  The YFTS program is a a youth-focused version of our Master Fruit Tree Steward program\, which covers technical fruit tree care skills such as pruning\, planting\, harvest\, and pest management.  Roll-out of the program begins summer 2022 with partnering organization\, Young-Women Empowered.  Parents and educators interested in enrolling youth (grades 6+) in future cohorts of this program are welcome to reach out to Tiare at tiare@cityfruit.org.
