SUMMARY:Blueberry harvest at Canter-berry Farms
DESCRIPTION:City Fruit was invited back to Canter-berry blueberry farms to harvest blueberries for distribution to food banks and meal programs in Seattle! Last year\, we harvested close to 200 pounds of berries\, with about half being shared with Refugee Women’s Alliance! \nWe welcome you to join us for this family-friendly harvest event! We ask that all attending youth be 9 years of age or older\, with adult supervision. Please be aware that Canter-berry farms is about an hour drive from central Seattle. SUMMARY:Processing excess fruit at City Fruit office
DESCRIPTION:With the harvest season in full swing\, City Fruit has an abundance of fruit! Currently\, many of our partner food banks are at their capacity for accepting certain fruit donations\, so we are looking for alternative ways to store and utilize the fruit! \nThis volunteer session would involve de-pitting and halving fruit so that they can be frozen and stored for future use. Later use includes: 1) Processing the frozen fruit into jams and jellies; and 2) Donation of the frozen fruit to fruit distribution partners in the fall when they have increased storage capacity. \nWe welcome volunteers to drop by to help process fruit from 10 am – 3 pm on 08/29 and 8/30.  Please email Tiare at tiare@cityfruit.org to share which day you would like to help and for how long! SUMMARY:Longacres Racetrack apple harvest
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an apple harvest at Longacres Racetrack — the site of a historic horse racetrack in Renton! The property is home to around 120 apple trees\, many at least 30 years old and used historically to feed some of the resident racetrack horses! If pest free\, the apples harvested from the property will be distributed to local area food banks and meal programs! Undersized or pest damaged fruit will be processed into apple sauce and cider. All volunteers are welcome to take a bag of apples home with them at the end of the event! \nPlease make sure to bring your mask and we will supply the necessary tools all sanitized and ready to go!
