Our favorite time of the year is just about here – the harvest season! Kicking off the harvest involves quite a few pieces, from planning harvest routes, doing inventory on harvest tools, onboarding new harvest team members, and checking in with fruit tree owners on the status of their trees. However, all this preparation and hard work during the season is what allows us to share the bounty from our city’s fruit trees with community members! As you likely already know, City Fruit distributes fruit to local area food banks and meal programs, in addition to sharing directly with the community through our Fruit-for-All pop-ups! We’re excited to say that this year, we’re hosting 18 pop-ups and expanding the locations to include Ballard Community Center, Garfield Community Center, Delridge Farmers Market, High Point P-Patch, Meadowbrook Community Center, New Holly P-Patch, and Queen Anne Farmers Market.
With all of our Fruit-for-All pop-ups there is no registration required, and anyone can pick up a bag of hyperlocal, freshly harvested fruit! While the type of fruit present at each of the pop-ups will vary throughout the season, we usually have at least a few different kinds of fruits available for farm stand visitors. In addition, with generous grant support, the City Fruit team has been exploring jam-making and fruit processing options that will allow our team to produce shelf-stable products for distribution to community members at our pop-up stands — while supplies last!

We are also excited to share that City Fruit will be tabling at select Farmers Markets early in the season. Please come visit us to chat about tree registrations, the harvest, our Urban Fruit Guardian youth program, or our upcoming annual Celebrates gala set for Thursday, October 13th! We hope to see you soon!
