Meet City Fruit’s 2026 Seasonal Harvest Team!

From left to right: Lily Brim, Clover Lang, Gwen Lindberg, and Victoria Ho

City Fruit has officially commenced harvest season! And with that, we have a new cohort of seasonal harvest interns who will be supporting us through residential fruit tree harvests, deliveries to partners, tabling at our Fruit-For-All farm stands, and more! If you’ve been following our work for a while, you know that we could not pull off gleaning tens of thousands of pounds of fruit each year without the support of seasonal staff like them.

For the last two weeks, our team of harvesters have been getting experience working with cherries, apples, and loquats (a first for City Fruit!). This fruit was donated across numerous partners such as Beacon Hill Mutual Aid, Eggrolls, Georgetown Village (LIHI), Jubilee Women’s Center, Rainier Beach Action Coalition, Shoreline LFP Senior Center, Southend Village (LIHI), and Wing Luke Museum!

Aside from harvest duties, the interns have been busy learning the ropes of fruit tree pest identification and pest prevention strategies, such as bagging fruitlets and netting trees. Our first lesson was at Tilth Alliance’s Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands for their monthly Fruit Crew session, (sign up here if you’re interested, they are every third-Thursday of the month!), where we learned how to do summer pruning and bagged fruitlets for protection against pests. We also netted an apple tree at the Highline Botanical Garden in SeaTac, and another residential tree in North Seattle! We are hoping that by training our harvesters to identify signs of pest damage or disease, we can better inform our network of tree owners of their tree’s health and what work could be done to support it.

We’re so excited to have a wonderful crew of seasonal harvesters this summer, and are looking forward to a fruitful harvest season! Below are some short responses from our interns to better get to know them- enjoy!

1. Why did you decide to join city fruit?
I decided to join City Fruit because I want to help divert food waste, learn more about how environmental justice can be enacted on a local scale, and spend Seattle’s short sunny season outside, working with plants and awesome people! In a city that headquarters Starbucks, Amazon, and Microsoft, it’s absurd that anyone is without fresh, yummy food.

2. What occupies your time outside of your internship with city fruit?
I spend my free time going for walks, watching movies, playing piano, doing art projects, yoga, and mostly, trying to read and learn as much as I can!

3. What is your favorite fruit?
My favorite fruit is bananas! 🍌

1. Why did you decide to join city fruit?
I chose to intern with City Fruit for my Capstone Project because I want to help communities in need while spending time outdoors this summer.

2. What occupies your time outside of your internship with city fruit?
I love the outdoors, but I also love a cozy day indoors. When I am outdoors I love hiking, kayaking, and going to a saltwater beach to swim and watch the sunset. When I am indoors, I love watching a Japanese drama or anime to practice my Japanese. Also in love with doing photography and photo editing but didn’t have much time to spend on it. And I love cooking but also love going out to try new restaurants.

3. What is your favorite fruit?
Persimmons

1. Why did you decide to join city fruit?
I’m super excited to be joining City Fruit through an AmeriCorps term this summer! I am passionate about work at the intersection of environmental/climate science and community impact/social justice, which is absolutely embodied by City Fruit’s work! The opportunity to serve my community through hands-on work that reduces food waste, improves equitable access to fresh produce, and lets me run around outside all summer…what more could I ask for?

2. What occupies your time outside of your internship with city fruit?
Outside of this internship, I spend as much time as possible outside: whitewater kayaking, backpacking, or just sitting in the sun on a porch! You can also find me occasionally slinging lattes at a cafe or crocheting and crafting with friends!

3. What is your favorite fruit?
My all-time favorite fruit is probably a ripe mango… but raspberries are a close second! And grapefruit! I love fruit!
