From VISTA to Staff: Meet our Development Manager

What brought you to City Fruit?

How long have you worked for the organization?

I joined City Fruit in April 2021 as an AmeriCorps VISTA Fundraising & Development Specialist. After a year of service, I took the role of City Fruit’s Grants & Harvest Resources Manager, leading our Harvest Program. Then in November 2022, I moved into the role of Development Manager. I’m now entering my 4th year with City Fruit!

Is your educational/experiential background in any way related to the work you do at City Fruit?

I received a BA in Environmental Studies from Western Washington University in 2019 and started working for the Leavenworth nonprofit, Upper Valley MEND, the summer after graduation to support their gleaning program. I had such a great experience harvesting from orchards, farms, and backyard gardens throughout the Leavenworth/Wenatchee area. My experiences that summer sparked my interest to work in food systems. Shortly after, I developed an interest in grant writing, and received a Certificate in Fundraising Management from the University of Washington. The opportunity to work at City Fruit and support their fundraising efforts was the perfect combination! My background in Environmental Studies, previous experience gleaning, and Fundraising Management certificate have all been extremely helpful resources that I’ve carried with me throughout my work at City Fruit.

What is your favorite fruit?

Watermelon! One of my favorite things in the summertime 🙂

Current read/watch/listen?  Or favorite read/watch/listen you’d like to recommend?

I’m currently reading “An American Marriage” by Tayari Jones. Incredible book – I highly recommend it! And one of the shows I’ve liked the most recently was Fargo (Season 5) –  Great season!
