Meet our new team members: Bela and Kai

The harvest season is an exciting time for us, not just because we get to enjoy beautiful fruit but also because our small team gets slightly larger. This year, we are joined by two seasonal team members: Bela and Kai.

Bela is our VISTA harvester, and she will harvest mainly in North Seattle with her adorable new puppy Fava who quickly became City Fruit’s new mascot. Kai is our UW intern, and you will see her at the Fruit for All Pop-ups throughout the season. Kai will also be helping with social media, so look for her posts on our page soon!

Hi! My name is Bela, and I am the Americorps VISTA intern at City Fruit this summer. I spent my undergrad focused on sustainable food systems, and I feel strongly that a food system, no matter how environmentally sustainable, can only be truly sustainable if it is accessible to all members of society. I was drawn to City Fruit because of their focus on expanding access to healthy foods for all communities. And before you ask, my favorite fruit is Texas peaches, right out of my hometown.

kai_3.jpgHello, my name is Shekinah San Jose, and I am City Fruit’s Intern for the summer. I am a Nutrition Assistant at Swedish Hospital and a graduating Senior at the University of Washington studying Environmental Studies and Nutrition. Through working with City Fruit, I am excited to gain more hands-on experience in the process of harvesting and distributing local fruit to underserved communities in Seattle. I am also excited to build community with like-minded people who are passionate about fruit and serving their community.
